10 things about college

since i havent blogged in a while, i decided to give you guys an early xmas present by leaving another post. haha lucky you

so my first semester at UC Berkeley (i just hate it when people spell berkeley wrong) has come to an end, and i wanted to reflect back on my college experience. so here are 10 things about college:

1. berkeleys not too hard. i mean, you can definitely party and get good grades. just learn how to manage TIME. time is always of the essence. i swear, time should never be wasted.

2. frat life is fuckin awesome. refer to my previous post, but all you college kids, do you feel as if you have a close group of friends like you did in high school? i dont think so. but in a frat, you feel as if you're in a close group of friends, a BROTHERHOOD, and that's really what a frat's all about. the brotherhood. not just parties and bitches, cmon i'm not like that.

3. my pbros are uber gay. but we've been thru so much shit together, and we are tight as hell. TAU = three and united hahaha

4. control your meal point spending. i was srsly starving the last week of school because i ran out of meal points.

5. dorm life is awesome. especially because every one on my floor is super close. i love it!

6. my roomies are also cool but living in a triple is wayyyy too crowded. i wish i was in a double. what i really wish for is my own room. maybe next year.

7. 32% tuition increase wtf?!

8. i need to start working out!! the blood pact will start once again next semester!

9. berkeley kids are pretty ugly. hahah

10. dont lose shit!! i've lost so many things at berkeley, i'm so irresponsible. jeeeeez

i realized that many of these things apply solely to me haha.

college is fun, way better than high school.

i've been home since last thursday and i've enjoyed every day of my winter break thus far :)

from monday to wednesday i was at big bear with the xc crew + clara, erika, melanie, carissa, hayley and daniela. ah damn what a fuckin chill trip. there is no such thing as TFB haha

highlights of the trip:

1. snowboarding. damn i havent snowboarded since middle school but i still remembered how to, which was kinda surprising. snowboarding is so exciting, i love it! i wanna go again!! good thing i'm goin to tahoe with lambdas at the end of break!

2. reza's story about the fobby asian skiers. i havent laughed so hard in such a long long time.

3. ohta's zinger. hahahh

4. carissa. sooooo funny.

5. the ruins. i finally finished the movie!! it actually wasnt that scary haha why was i so scared?

6. melanie and erika. you guys are wayyyyyy too nice. thank you guys for everything!

7. "i'm gonna name him neo because he is THE ONE" HAHA

memories, memories. these things you simply never forget in your entire lifetime. these are the moments of my life. and i love them. <- my attempt at being profound haha

we need another road trip fshure.

ok, my bad. i've really been lagging on updating my blog. my own personal journal!! ah what am i doing?!

i havent even had one post about college..

well. college is a whole other experience. way different from high school. i mean i basically live independently which is soo different from my previous life. i can do anything i want whenever i want. but i still have self-control (kinda).

people say people change in college. i js joined a frat. but i still feel im the same person, no better, no worse. i really dont like the perception i get now that im in a frat. "oh youre in a frat, you party animal!" nono not at all. i honestly joined for the close knit brotherhood, not just to party. so yea, can you stop judging based off these stupid preconceptions. kthx

a word or two on my frat: think about it...will you ever make close friends in college? most friends you meet in clubs but those clubs dont really mean anything. its simply lacking in...closeness. you just go to the club meetings, talk about some unnecessary event, then leave. are these people you meet with for just an hour a week really your friends? in high school, i became close with my xc friends because we spent so much time together and we all shared pain and hardships that accompany cross country seasons. this experience that you share only strengthens your friendship. but clubs...you dont go through any hard shit, you just go to meetings!! come on. sure, ill join clubs to boost my resume but not to make friends. and the frat is the same thing as cross country. its the hardships me and my pbros go through than strengthen our relationship.

so as first semester comes to a close, let me ask all the other berkeley kids: what have you done your first semester? i am confident i have accomplished so much more than any berkeley freshman.

im not saying to join a frat. im saying make sure you find your close group of friends because friends come and go, especially in college, as time passes. my pbros and the bros in the house are there eternally.

berkeley classes arent that bad. jeeeez. sure its competitive but hey, ive had competition all my life and i can beat any of these berkeley nerds/rats. lolz.

college is fun and all, but i still get homesick. it was really nice seeing everyone during thanksgiving break :)

i already cant wait til winter break! (A for effort though..)

im tired so im gonna summarize

i dont even know what day it is...time flies too fast

wed - karaoke with carissa, hayley, and daanish. fun fun haha then in-n-out yum

thurs - hung out with my ol' friends from primetime whom i havent seen in years...haha they havent changed a bit. we went to hollywood and walked around. one of my friends got a LEGIT tattoo right on his rib. he said it hurt like a bitch so now im all discouraged. or maybe im just being a pussy. haha but it was really nice catching up with them

then went to hammers and watched nacho libre with the guys. haha funny movie. that guy steven looks a little like me when i had my long hair, and the same name?! wtf

friday - watched district 9. i looooooooved it! it was action packed, gory, funny, and emotional all in one. definitely best movie ive seen all summer. you should watch it!

i still want to see 500 days of summer...someone wanna watch with me??

we know how to have fun

so on friday we decided to go on a spontaneous trip. us 6 guys. and seriously it was spontaneous. we went up to big bear because reza had a cabin up there. but he didnt even get the keys to the cabin so we broke in his own house. rofl the funniest thing ever. we broke a window pane and pushed ohta through the window. hahaha but before that we went mountain biking. that was my first time mountain biking, but i felt pretty confident cuz im pretty good at riding a normal bike. wow i had the time of my freakin life, even though we got lost for like 2 hours haha going down those steep hills at high speeds is such an adrenaline rush but most of the time we were climbing uphill...stupid trails. after being lost for a while, we gave up and got off our bikes and climbed up on this huge boulder. WOW the view from there was so beautiful, i wish i could share it with you. i could see the beautiful mountains and the lake down below, it was absolutely beautiful.  felt so risky too! one misstep and youre gone...ah so while we were riding daanish ate shit pretty badly. he mightve broken his wrist. i also ate shit but it was such a rush, i didnt feel a thing. but im feeling it now, it sucks ass!!

so after biking and breaking in rezas, we simply chilled. so chill haha. at one point in the night we went outside to look at the stars. it felt so close and it was so sparkly!! gorgeous view, cant get enough of it! great bros night out

and then yesterday we went TFB. thats all. basically another bros night out, fun as hell

robot chicken is sooo hilarious. im so glad i watched tons of cartoons growing up, it has really developed my sense of humor. my kid is definitely gonna watch tons of TV!

i went to nrb for two nights in a row!! soooo much fun singing your heart out~ you really let all your emotions go when you sing, so relieving!

sunday, before nrb i went to obon with allie, aaron and danish. not much to do there but i ate okinawa dangos and spam musubi! but i saw a lot of people i havent seen in a really long time..it was nice seeing all of them. obon is like FOR baller central haha

yesterday, before nrb i golfed with clara and danish. golf is pretty interesting now especially since i know how to hit the ball correctly...but i definitely need more practice. and i should really practice because ill be golfing a lot once i enter the business world.

then we went to rice things..that place is such a good deal! so much volume and pretty good japanese food :)

ah it was nice seeing all the alumni and current runners! i ran a pretty decent time haha but way slower than i ran in my previous years...i guess thats what happens when youre alum status

hit the gym and played ball with jimmy and daanish there...pretty fun, but it sucks playing basketball after you work out. i could only shoot short range shots to layups..but thats all i need to own :)

sat--i WAS supposed to go to the gym at 7 but totally blew it

went paintballing at hollywood sports with...lets see...josh, randy, jimmy, jason, jeremy, aaron, wade and brian takao. it was basically us versus jon ishii and his south friends. it was a pretty good matchup even though jeremy is crazy good. ahhah we'd be all sad every time he got out. ah paintball is so much fun! such an adrenaline rush! but yeah it was nice hanging out with all those guys

then me and daanish hung out with carissa, hayley and baylie.  we went to mulligans randomly but it was lots of fun haha i learned rock climbing is so hard...then we had in-n-out. yum!

ah whenever i dont blog about an event on the day of the event, i get really lazy and generalize so sorry!

so on tuesday, we had a bonfire! danish, peter and i went to dockweiler at 3 and met up with carissa and hayley. wow we went in the water and there were random giant dips that made me drown a couple times and the waves were so monstrous. in other words, i got raped no lube.  after giving up on the ocean we played taboo. taboo was seriously the main part of our bonfire haha

carissa and hayley left at around 6? but at the same time ohta, clara, melanie odo, aaron, and chie came so we hit the volleyball around. we could only rally for like 34 touches, pretty sad. but after we enjoyed the beautiful sunset! ah how pretty. and u know what the sexiest thing ever is...when airplanes take off from the airport, burst through the overhanging clouds and fly into the sunset. life doesnt get any better than that. haha i mustve told everyone about how sexy it is. repetition repetition. then we got the bonfire going and it went nicely. we had hot dogs and smores. and after we played taboo and as soon as i knew it, it was already closing time.

so next we met up at bomball.  wow everyone was there.  all those south bros and rach's church group. it was nice seeing those south rascals and rachel and yoseph! if u have a chance to go there, check out the tassels hanging from the ceiling.  you'll see my prom pic! :)

wednesday i went to the gym. after, ohta and i decided to go to lindberg nutrition to buy protein!! gonna get ripped, BRO! haha then we went to chipotle with zach. ah so filling...i mustve consumed so many carbs..

after i worked on my life insurance license training. i have to log in 52 hours!! but i could just keep the compy running so its all good!

then yosuke and horton randomly call me to hang out so we go to hammers' and play MoH. damn that game is so fun! best $10 investment ever hahah then we went to weinerschnitzel and got quad 3's! best deal EVER omg so delicious. ah then all those other rats came to watch gia get his ears pierced. i wonder how he looks?!!

meanwhile i hung out with mimi. it was fun, im sure she'd agree haha sorry to surprise you like that, i had to do it...

yesterday was a whole buncha random haha

i hit the gym at 830 at carissa and hayley's request...but they show up extra late. i had a pretty good workout though. ah i still havent gone today, should today just be my recovery day?

then i met up with JP at bomball because i had to give her her lanyards i got from japan. but she makes me wait for like 20 minutes so i was just sitting inside like a loner. but i found out my fellow scholarship recipient works there, i see him so much lately. JP showed me her new camera..wow its really nice! zach also joins us, and we have a little catch up sesh

then we go back to JP's because tori and cynthia were using her pool. ah it was nice seeing both of them..havent seen them in so long! so we talked alongside the pool then we went to curry house (i was craving it so much).

then i went to costco with daanish to buy bonfire goods. we saw airi's mom! i see her a lot lately too haha

then i went to wendy yo's house and met up with zach and bretty and we watched the notebook. i am pretty disappointed...didn't get one tear out of me. but i thought it was pretty hawt when elie and noah are first going out and he gets ice cream on his nose and elie throws down the ice cream and starts making out with him..ooooh
then we watched space jam but i was sooo tired i cant remember half of it. i woke up at the scene when MJ is practicing dunking and "fly like an eagle" is playing in the back...SO SEXY.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDON GIA! :)

so this morning i woke up super duper early to go to the gym with ohta (the blood pact continues!).  and after the rigorous workout danish aaron and i decided to surprise gia with a little cake! so we went to albertsons and got him a chocolate cake customized with his name on it (we are such great friends) and some cute dora balloons to go along with it.  we met up with ohta at gia's house and proceeded to bust in his room and sing happy birthday, waking him up.  he sleeps nakers lolz

THEN we basically kidnapped him to go to morongo...we all joined the WINNER's club!

but ironically i lost $60 this time...damn...i suck ass

but i dont even care...in the long run $60 dont mean a thangg

im gonna win it all back in vegas when im older, but 100x more

today i had the japanese american scholarship fund (JASF) scholarship ceremony

it was at a really nice golf course in montebello

the scholarship recipients were ALL very nice people

i am honored to have gotten to know them, hopefully our paths will cross again

the scholarship selection committee and donors were also ALL very nice people

there was one lady in my table who said i reminded her of her son who was killed years ago

she had been donating scholarship money to the JASF every year in memory of her son

she kept telling my mom that i was a fine boy, and that there was nothing to worry about me

you know, i was really touched...and my mom was too, as she started crying right in front of her

i felt proud that i reminded her of her son...i will definitely stay in touch with her and update her on my steps to success.

you know, this ceremony made me proud to be japanese american. we have such a rich heritage, full of struggle and prejudice, yet we managed to overcome it all and become accepted by society.

my speech (if you remember from the previous post) went well! many people approached me saying that i had a great speech.  They actually laughed at my jokes...yay!

there was legitimate purpose behind this scholarship.  it wasnt simply for the recipient to attain higher education.  it was for the recipients to use this scholarship to attain success and then really reflect on who got them to where they currently are. they urged the importance of giving back to the community who helped get them there, and hoped that one day we will give back specifically to the japanese-american community.  i really hope that one day i can be a donor to the JASF.

March 21 - vernal equinox, first day of spring

just so happens also to be my birthday

yesterday i turned 18 years old

im freakin old

im a legal adult now...wow i'm definitely not ready

but anyways, yesterday was definitely the best birthday yet

months before my birthday, i promised myself that i would go to morongo when i turned 18

gotta live it up!

so i got $100

and i went with daanish, ohta, joey, and jenn oki

in daanish's PORSCHE cayenne!

we looked like such ballers

but the seats were rather uncomfortable; my ass hurt so much on the way home

we get to morongo

and it is so damn nice

no wonder indians arent complaining anymore

ohta and i wanted to play poker first but the blinds were $2/$4 (only the blinds!!) and we were scared some big stack would bully us around and make us lose our money quick

so we went to the blackjack table, where everyones actions are independent of each other

it was so much fun! i love gambling haha (addiction?)

i lost $80 :) but the experience was totally worth it

daanish actually won like $45 so props to him

we went to this $10 buffet there

all the food was meh but it was a good deal, for sure

so kids, when once you turn 18, you should definitely drive to morongo with friends

its a lot of fun

we're driving home, and i get this text from my sister saying "we cant eat together tonight cuz a friend from japan is coming"

wow i was kinda pissed off, my family was gonna ditch me for friends

and since i had no money left, i was set on eating weinerschnitzel for my bday dinner

but daanish said he would treat us all out to sammy's woodfire pizza (wt random?)

but i couldnt complain since he was the driver and the winner

so we get there and i see my sister and my mom randomly sitting at a table nearby

at first i thought it was just coincidence that we came to the same restaurant

but i look over

and theres this hugeass table filled with all my friends!!!

i was so surprised!!!! i had no idea this was coming!!

yes, i was so shocked i seriously couldnt say anything

so i take a seat next to mimi

wow such a surprise!!

and i love surprises!!

so we ate, and it was all joyous

and then daanish handed me a birthday present

inside was this D&G watch that i envied and dreamed of having when me and daanish went to bloomingdales a week ago

wow i was so shocked once again

i thought i would only get this once i became rich

i thanked all my friends and gave them each a hug

I AM SO LUCKY AND GRATEFUL TO HAVE SUCH GREAT FRIENDS!!

i was on the verge of tears when i saw all my friends gathered here for me

after that we went to amc and watched "i love you, man"

it was soo funny because the main character is so effin awkward

at times, i couldnt bear how awkward he was cuz it made me feel awkward

mimi saw it the day before so she was just sleeping on me

after, i hung out with mimi cuz i heard she baked me a cake!!

which is pretty damn amazing cuz shes so lazy and she has never baked before

the cake was good!

the frosting was really sweet but the sponge cake part was kinda normal so it blended nicely hahah

i still appreciated the fact that she even made me cake

i was really touched by her efforts

on top of this, she got me shoes from a brand called clae (which i've never heard about but apparently its pretty famous)

she told me to be honest about what i thought about them

i thought they were okay and i felt really bad because i didn't love them

so shes gonna return them and get something else for me

lets rewind to yesterday

so yesterday was the nhs blood drive
mimi kookoo signed me up so i was SUPER nervous
cuz i had never given blood before
so freakin i get a call slip at 10
and wait an hour and a half (WTF!)
in the mean time, i was talking with daanish and j.oak to release some of this nervousness
but still i was so nervouss
although i laughed when jimmy fainted
so i get called in
and they do this simple test first to see if you're anemic
and prick ur fingertip
then they take u to those chairs
and after waiting a while, they stick that needle thing in u
but IT WASN'T BAD at all
i was in my happy place :)
but it was weird cuz i kept looking at my blood bag
and thought "wow thats all my blood"

after that i felt tired and i took a nap
luckily i had no work today
but it felt good to give blood!

i was kinda not stoked for it cuz i heard it was gay last year

it turned out to be really fun

this was my first congress so i was excited to go

the other time i got sick so i couldnt go :/

but overall this convention was pretty fun

i felt like we learned all the stuff we did at convention in gov

that part was okay..kinda interesting i guess

but we didnt attend most of these sessions

mostly we were out walking around and stuff

saturday was joeys bday so we went to cpk for lunch and mccormicks for dinner
